Most people in business agree on one thing at least: they spend too much time in meetings. By using this CD you will be able to manage meetings in English more effectively.
Content overview
The Business Meetings Training Site is designed to develop your skills and language when leading and taking part in meetings in English. This course consists of five units which help you to improve your effectiveness in different roles and at different stages in a successful meeting.
Each unit contains five modules and each module contains between three and six exercises for you to work through on your own. Some of the exercises are supported by audio material.
The units
- Unit 1: Preparing
This unit helps you to prepare for meetings. You learn what to do and say in advance of the meeting.
- Unit 2: Starting up
This unit focuses on the initial stages in a meeting. You learn what to do and say to get the meeting off to a good start.
- Unit 3:Participating
In this unit we look at how participants can help to make the meeting successful by applying good communication skills and using the right language.
- Unit 4:Leading
This unit helps you to lead meetings. You learn what to do and say to ensure that the meeting reaches its objectives.
- Unit 5: Finishing
In this unit we look at what is important to do at the end and after the end of a meeting. You learn the language and skills you need to ensure that the effectiveness of the meeting is guaranteed.
The modules
Each unit consists of five modules:
- Meetings knowledge and skills
These modules provide you with knowledge and skills for making your meetings effective. They teach you about different kinds of meeting, about how they work and about what to do in meetings. You learn about:
- setting up a meeting and what makes a successful meeting
- types of meeting
- taking part in meetings
- chairing meetings
- focusing on results
- Language
These modules provide you with key phrases and expressions for meetings. They teach you what to say in meetings. They cover practice in:
- basic vocabulary for meetings
- opening the meeting
- participating effectively in meetings
- language for the chairing role
- finishing off
- Communication skills
These modules suggest techniques for improving communication in meetings. They teach you how to communicate better in relation to these areas:
- building relationships
- communicating internationally
- listening and giving and receiving feedback
- managing conflict
- raising effectiveness
